Process management and organizational performance in healthcare: A systematic review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Process management has gained increasing relevance in healthcare systems due to the need to improve efficiency, quality of care, and organizational sustainability in contexts of high complexity and growing demand. Within this framework, the present study aimed to analyze the relationship between process management and organizational performance in healthcare institutions, with the goal of proposing an integrated conceptual framework. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, using a structured search in the Scopus database and applying predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The selection process identified a total of 39 studies relevant to the analysis. The results showed that process management has a positive impact on organizational performance, primarily in dimensions such as efficiency, quality of care, costs, and patient experience. Furthermore, it was identified that this impact is mediated by factors such as digital transformation, leadership, organizational culture, and the structural conditions of the healthcare system. In conclusion, process management is configured as a strategic axis that, when integrated with technological and organizational capabilities, contributes to the improvement of systemic performance, allowing the proposal of a conceptual framework that articulates the relationships between processes, mediators and organizational results
